Selected by The Whisky Jury. Caroni 23 Years Old 1998 is a rare single barrel rum, bottled by Spring Spirits for the 20th anniversary of cocktail bar SIPS in Antwerp. The rum was distilled in 1998 and first aged for 12 years in the tropics. It was then transported to the United Kingdom, where it aged for another 11 years before being bottled in 2021 at 56.8%. The state-run Caroni Distillery on the Caribbean island of Trinidad was a famous producer of heavy rums in the 20th century, but the island’s sugar-growing industry collapsed and the distillery was shut down in 2002. Only 288 bottles of Caroni 23 Years Old 1998 have been released.
